Next, the bio-filter beds were created out of melaleuca eucalptus, with Douglas Fir sub-flooring, and deglupta eucalyptus flooring.  The bio-filter beds are up high so that when they flush, gravity will cascade the water into the first grow beds, oxygenating the water somewhat.

The grow beds themselves were built during this period, using primarily 2” albizzia planks.

The fish tanks were shortened by about 1/3 according to new information from Friendly Aquaponics, whose home system was proving a more efficient gal:sq ft ratio.  Then, Pacific Lining Systems  installed 80 mil food grade high density polyethylene.  We also had two utility tanks lined.  The dead space created by shortening the tanks may be exploited later if the system expands.

Notice that the fish tanks were somewhat rounded at the corners with planking.  This is to allow the fish a more natural movement and will enhance water circulation.
